There are plenty of fun activities for families visiting the Steeple area. Following is a brief history of the area and a few activities to try if you're staying here:

A Brief History of the Dengie 100

'Dengie 100' is a peninsula of  land, east of Chelmsford, Essex and is bounded by the North Sea to the east, The River Crouch to the south and also the River Blackwater to the north.

Once part of a tropical sea the land rose and became a home for dinosaurs whose fossils are still being found to this day.

Mentioned in the Domesday book the Dengie 100 has been home to man ever since the Iron age man where rich soil and a mild maritime climate made it very habitable.

The Romans occupation of Britain AD 43 to 410, came and they built forts and homes in the area. As there empire here collapsed, they were followed  by the Saxons who gave the area its name.

Modern  Dengie is a thriving rural  community retaining many of the qualities of life set out by its forefathers whilst accommodating and embracing modernity.
